High-capacity donors have a God-given longing to give, but they also have questions that need to be answered before they can be comfortable giving. In dealing with major donors and potential major donors, we need to recognize that they are asking, consciously or not. For example:
Do you really care about me or are you just here for the money?
“You call me a financial partner in your ministry. You say that you want to minister to me, but will you be my partner when business cycles turn and I cannot give at the same level? Do you really want to help me understand stewardship principles so that I will experience God’s best now and for eternity? Do you really want to know my ministry passions and values?” These questions are on the minds of people of capacity. We must be sure that we are committed to ministry first and then to helping financial partners grow in the grace of giving.
