What is your donor seeking?
A donor is most prone to give at his capacity when he realizes where his God-given interests coincide with your organization’s mission. To achieve this kind of understanding requires a serious commitment to the donor. It means not only an investment of time, but also total honesty in explaining and presenting your case for support. It means an absolute avoidance of high-pressure tactics. It requires undying loyalty to the donor’s need to put their funds into projects and ministries that meet his or her criteria of interest. In other words, you need to make your appeals based not on what your organization is seeking, but on what the individual donor is seeking. Where is God leading this person? What is God speaking to this donor’s heart about his financial resources?
