Essential components of a presentation

“When making a presentation to a major donor to solicit a gift, keep it simple. There are four essential components: 1. There’s a problem in the world. (This is a mini-talk about whatever problem your ministry organization is dedicated to solving. Usually, this will track back directly to the mission statement of your ministry. A well written mission statement will focus on the problem that your ministry addresses.) 2. There’s a solution for this problem, and our organization is dedicated to that solution. (This is where you establish how your ministry accomplishes particular goals or meets the need addressed in your mission.) 3. There’s a specific strategy for implementing the solution which we’re focusing on right now. (This is about the project, campaign, or aspect of the ministry which requires funding. What is the specific strategy, program, or concept — unique to your organization — which meets the pressing need? It is essential that you make clear why your organization is the place for the donor to invest.) 4. There’s value in partnership. (What action on the part of the donor will help us solve the problem? Show the donor how he can be a partner in achieving the strategy, solving the problem, through a specific action on his part.)”
